Unicorn interlocking kelly bars transfer rotation and pull-down movement from the rotary head of the drill rig to the drilling tools (like drilling bucket, drilling auger, core barrel, casing tubing etc). The kelly bars are telescopic 2 to 6 times. The geometry of Unicorn kelly bars is optimized by FEM and is designed for high forces. This reduces the wear and guarantees long serving life.
Unicorn friction kelly bars consists of 2 to 5 telescopic tubular sections with a system of drive keys and lock recesses welded onto their outer surfaces. Standard Kelly Bars are fabricated with a total of 6 drive keys on each section. The tubular Kelly sections are manufactured from high-tensile steel to ensure minimum weight with superior strength.
